Hybrid Solar at Hospital

Case study

Hospital, Western Cape

50 Hybrid Solar Photovoltaic-Thermal (PVT) panels supply electricity and hot water for showers at this164 bed multi-specialist hospital. This is an integrated solution combining PVTs and heat pump to deliver hot water and electricity to the building.

Plantroom delivered by Greenline Africa.

Project Highlights:

  • Hospital

  • Delivered in 2025

  • The system will off-set 2,328,478 kg CO2 over the expected economic life-time of 20 years.

  • System is equipped with remote monitoring and control

  • ?? kWh solar heat per year

  • ?? kWh solar electricity per year

  • This is a 100% renewable solution where more than 60% of the hot water demand is met directly by Solar heat while the remaining is covered by heat pumps. Electricity produced by PVTs covers the electricity needs of the heat pump on an annual basis

  • A combined peak output of 88 kW, consisting of 69 kW thermal and 19 kW electric.

  • Electricity produced compensates for the electricity required by the heat pumps
